Redesigning learning for a thriving, agile future
Education Futures is a research and innovation consultancy focused on redesigning how people learn. Founded by Dr. John Moravec, we work with educators, institutions, and communities to build learning systems that match the realities of a rapidly changing world. Our purpose is practical and simple: help people create the conditions where learning is humane, future-oriented, and effective.

Mission and vision
We advance a clear mission: enable learners, educators, and communities to thrive by aligning education with emerging social, economic, and technological contexts. Our vision is a learner-centered ecosystem that is fluid, networked, and cooperative. We draw on the idea of a Knowmad Society, where people create and share knowledge across places and platforms. In this vision, curiosity is an asset, agency is expected, and learning is lifelong.
Principles that guide our work
Our practice rests on four principles.
First, participatory governance. We call this “futurocracy.” Decisions about learning should involve the people affected by them. We design processes that invite students, educators, families, employers, and civic actors into real problem-solving, not symbolic consultation.
Second, invisible learning. Much of what people learn occurs outside formal classrooms. We help clients recognize and credential learning that happens in work, community, and digital environments. This approach respects informal and non-formal learning, and it strengthens pathways across education and employment.
Third, human-centered innovation. Tools matter when they extend human capability. We evaluate technologies for their ability to support creativity, inclusion, collaboration, and rigorous inquiry. The goal is not to chase novelty, but to solve instructional and organizational problems with evidence.
Fourth, global engagement with local relevance. We work across regions, yet every project is grounded in context. We bring comparative insight while designing with local stakeholders to ensure fit, feasibility, and impact.
What we do
We help organizations move from ideas to implementation.
We provide consulting and capacity building for schools, universities, ministries, and nonprofit partners. This includes strategic planning, program design, curriculum modernization, and assessment frameworks that emphasize competencies, creativity, and ethical use of technology. Our workshops equip teams to analyze trends, map systems, and prototype changes within clear governance and evaluation structures.
Our research generates usable knowledge. We conduct studies, literature syntheses, and design research that translate complex findings into decisions educators can apply. We publish books, reports, and briefs that document methods, case studies, and tools. When appropriate, we open resources for reuse and adaptation.
We communicate ideas that mobilize action. Dr. Moravec and our collaborators deliver keynotes and dialogues that connect futures thinking with classroom practice, leadership, and policy. We use these events to build shared language and to catalyze partnerships.
We cultivate communities of practice. Through convenings and online spaces, we connect educators and innovators who are testing new models. These communities exchange evidence, refine methods, and mentor new projects.
How we work
Our method is straightforward and disciplined.
We begin with problem framing. Together with stakeholders, we define the problem in its context, clarify constraints, and identify outcomes that matter for learners. We prefer short cycles of inquiry that produce early insights.
We then design and test solutions. Using design research, we prototype curricula, policies, or tools and gather data on learning, equity, and feasibility. We adjust based on what the data and stakeholders tell us.
We embed for scale. Implementation support includes professional learning, change management, governance design, and monitoring plans. We document what works, what does not, and why, so improvements continue after our engagement.
Why partners choose Education Futures
Clients work with us because we unite scholarship with practical delivery. Our frameworks are grounded in research and refined through projects in varied contexts. We bring a collaborative network of educators, researchers, and technologists who co-create solutions rather than import prefabricated models. Our recommendations are specific, implementable, and cost aware. We attend to equity and access as design requirements, not afterthoughts.
Areas of focus
Across projects, several themes recur. We support competency-based and project-based learning that values creativity and problem solving. We help institutions align programs with future work, civic life, and ethical technology use. We strengthen educator capacity in assessment, feedback, and the use of AI and data with clear guardrails. We design parallel learning architectures that connect schools, workplaces, and communities so learning is continuous and recognized.
Outcomes we pursue
We measure success by improvements that matter to learners and educators. These include clearer pathways into and through learning, stronger learner agency, better coherence between curriculum and assessment, and institutional capacity to adapt responsibly to change. We favor indicators that reflect real practice, such as quality of student work, reliability of evaluation, and sustainability of new programs.
Work with us
If you are leading change in a classroom, a campus, a district, a ministry, or a learning network, we can help you frame the problem, build the coalition, and deliver the work. We welcome collaborations with educators, policymakers, technologists, entrepreneurs, and community partners who share a commitment to human-centered, future-ready education.
